Job Summary:

Connecticut College is conducting a regional search for a Head Coach Men’s and Women’s Rugby Club Sports, under the direction of the Office of Student Engagement and in cooperation with team leadership, the coach develops and implements all facets of both the Men’s and Women’s Club Rugby programs at Connecticut College. This position is for the duration of the club sports season August – May (36 weeks), with an average of 4-12 hours of practice and game instruction per week, not including travel and other commitments.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

The Head Coach Men’s and Women’s Rugby Club Sports will instruct all aspects of on field activity, including organization and direction of team practices and match coaching. The Head Coach will be responsible for developing and maintaining discipline within the program, making referrals to the Office of Student Engagement, develop and maintain a professional and active relationship with co-workers, faculty and staff, administration, alumni, friends of the college, and trustees. Must be knowlegdeable and adhere to rules and regulations of USA Rugby and all policies of Connecticut College, including but not limited to the Student Organization Handbook. The level of responsibility includes not only areas specific to the sport, but also a responsibility to the holistic well-being of the student-athletes involved. The outcomes of the program will be measured not only by the conventional means of measuring athletic success, but also by the ability of the coach to fulfill the mission of the College. This will be demonstrated in part by the mentoring of student-athletes to develop the wisdom and maturity necessary for positive citizenship and leadership.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree and previous collegiate hockey coaching experience is preferred. Current USA Rugby Level 200 Coaching Certification, or the ability to progress towards such certification within six months of being hired, is required. Must have effective leadership skills and motivational abilities with highly successful mentoring experiences; strong desire to work with and relate to student-athletes; sound administrative ability with emphasis on organization; effective communication skills, both written and verbal; positive style of leadership; willingness to travel for away games and sensitivity to cultural differences.
