NERFU Announces New Team Name: The Nor’Easters

NERFU is excited to announce the new name of its inaugural team: The Nor’Easters. Ideas for names were collected from the New England rugby community, narrowed down by the NERFU board of directors, and finally selected by the union again by online voting.

The initial roster will be selected this summer and composed of dozens of men and women throughout the union. Four sides of the team (two men and two women) will play the first time against the Canadian Classics on July 8 and July 15. Players can still apply to join on the NERFU website.

“We are thrilled to announce the name of our new team,” said NERFU President Brad Dufresne. “The Nor’Easters is a name that represents the strength, determination, and resilience of our region. We are confident that our team will be a force to be reckoned with.”

Starting with this summer series of matches against the Classics, and continuing into the foreseeable future, the NERFU Nor’Easters will be an invitational team akin to the British and Irish Lions or the Barbarians and composed of elite players selected from amateur New England clubs. The hopes of the board are to create a new tradition in New England and expand exciting and unique playing opportunities for our members including possibly national and international tours.
